Notebook 2 is a text which can be read as a phenomenological articulation of the enmeshed processes of pedestrian practice and on-the-spot environmental observation. Saliently, it is also an example of literary fieldwork in which Coleridge showcases his interest in the roles played by cartography in both the acquisition of geographical experience and the development of the spatial imagination. The Lake District notebook, therefore, is a processual space in which Coleridge thinks geographically through both text and a range of maps and mapping practices.
